24th-Mar-2009 12:20 am - Ant Farm Update 2: The Final Update

If this was video you would now be hearing the Boys II Men song “It’s so Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday”. The last of the ants in my two ant farm died about 3 weeks ago.
Not a bad run for ants really. These sort of ants only last between 3 to 6 months. I got the ants in the beginning of November, so some of them made it roughly 4 months.
If you’ve read my previous entry on the ants, you might remember that I setup two ant farms; one was the more traditional sand model (1st pic below) and the other was the newer style with blue gel (2nd pic below). The ants in the blue gel lived much longer, in general, with the last few ants in the blue gel living about 5-6 weeks after the final ant in the sand farm died.

I ran garbage to the dumpster and found my two raccoon buddies stuck in the bottom. This is practically a weekly event. The garbage gets dumped and they they climb in there to eat, but can’t get out because it’s too deep with nothing to crawl up.
So, I throw a pallet into the dumpster and they come crawling out. Usually they get right out and run, but they have become used to me. They sat up there and played around for a good 10 minutes as I waited.

Sorry the pictures look so shitty. They were taken with my Motorola Q and I had forgotten that I had turned off my flash.

In front of my house, there is a creek. Every year since I’ve lived there (2000) these same two ducks come back. I’ve heard that ducks aren’t regularly monogamist, but I’m pretty sure it’s the same drake and hen. But what the hell do I know?
