12th-Jul-2007 08:16 am - Attack of the baby mammoth
Yesterday, when I got home from work, I was surfing around and found this headline:

Baby Mammoth Found in Siberia.

What amazing news! I can't believe they found a living baby mammoth!
Imagine my disappointment when I read the article to find it was a 40,000+ year old FROZEN mammoth. Damn you headline writer!
This morning I noticed that all the other news sites are using the qualifiers "Frozen", "Well Preserved", or "Stinking, Rotting, Corpse". OK, maybe I made the last one up.

If you like the Beastie Boys and this sort of thing interests you, they have a new flickr site where they are posting pictures from their current tour.
4th-Jun-2007 12:32 pm - Beelzebubba
As I mentioned Beelzebub in my last entry, I decided to look up Beelzebub on wikipedia. On the entry they have this cool picture:

This picture is a reference to Beelzebub's title of Lord of the Flies. Apparently this picture comes from a book entitled, "Dictionnaire Infernal". Awesomely, the "Dictionnaire Infernal" is a book on demonology that was published in 1818. The book sounds like it is an encyclopedia of demons. It sounds like it would be a cool book to read.

As a side note here is a picture of the Dead Milkmen's cool album "Beelzebubba"

6th-Mar-2007 12:17 pm - Code Monkey

I was introduced to this cool song from the podcast Net@Nite. It's called "Code Monkey" by Jonathan Coulton. It's a really great tune and has awesome geek lyrics. It makes me feel better as I am coding in SQL as I listen to it.

Code Monkey get up get coffee
Code Monkey go to job
Code Monkey have boring meeting
With boring manager Rob
Rob say Code Monkey very diligent
But his output stink
His code not “functional” or “elegant”
What do Code Monkey think?
Code Monkey think maybe manager want to write god damned login page himself
Code Monkey not say it out loud
Code Monkey not crazy, just proud

Code Monkey like Fritos
Code Monkey like Tab and Mountain Dew
Code Monkey very simple man
With big warm fuzzy secret heart:
Code Monkey like you

Code Monkey hang around at front desk
Tell you sweater look nice
Code Monkey offer buy you soda
Bring you cup, bring you ice
You say no thank you for the soda cause
Soda make you fat
Anyway you busy with the telephone
No time for chat
Code Monkey have long walk back to cubicle he sit down pretend to work
Code Monkey not thinking so straight
Code Monkey not feeling so great

Code Monkey like Fritos
Code Monkey like Tab and Mountain Dew
Code Monkey very simple man
With big warm fuzzy secret heart:
Code Monkey like you
Code Monkey like you a lot

Code Monkey have every reason
To get out this place
Code Monkey just keep on working
See your soft pretty face
Much rather wake up, eat a coffee cake
Take bath, take nap
This job “fulfilling in creative way”
Such a load of crap
Code Monkey think someday he have everything even pretty girl like you
Code Monkey just waiting for now
Code Monkey say someday, somehow

Code Monkey like Fritos
Code Monkey like Tab and Mountain Dew
Code Monkey very simple man
With big warm fuzzy secret heart:
Code Monkey like you

29th-Jan-2007 12:00 am - Carthaginians Riding War Elephants Would Rule!

I'm such a geek. I just saw an ad for "Hannibal Rising" and my initial thought was that it was a movie about the Hannibal whom crossed the Alps, but it's about the Hannibal whom eats livers. That's one of the reasons I don't like movies, they always disappoint me.

I referenced War Elephants in this entry's title. Check out the Wikipedia entry on them. I found it interesting.

One of my favorite moblog sites is Detroitfunk. This guy goes around and takes pictures of Detroit. He has a great eye and his pictures capture the beauty and sadness of the decaying city. These pictures were recently posted and caught my eye. I love mosaic tile. Click the link above to look at all his pics.

GEEK MAN

"GeekMan is 6 inches tall, made from plastic, and comes with 5 accessories (his weapons of wisdom and tech gadgetry). Now that Ken is out of the picture, have Geekman take Barbie out for a really fun time. They could go to the library or the a Star Trek convention!

* Geeky Glasses (the Geek Visual Input Device) * Handheld Computer / PDA (attaches magnetically to GeekMans Waist) * Notebook Computer / Laptop (the Cerebral I/O Device) * Coffee Mug (to re-energize super powers) * Wristwatch * The 15-centimetre tall bespectacled, pocket-protector-wearing Geekman action figure is known for his "ungodly coding abilities," "opposite sex repulsion" and "less than ideal personal hygiene routine." Yoohoo! * It seems some losers are offended by the above description. They claim to find it offensive. Well, Get a life! This is a freakin' toy....it's fun and makes a great gift! If you don't like it, then shut your computer. We are real Geeks....and we are proud of it. If you can't take a joke, go home and have your mommie rub your back!
