7th-Mar-2007 11:20 am - I am Legend

Holy Shit! I just read that they are actually making a movie, staring Will Smith, of the book "I am Legend". I had heard rumors, but they have an estimated release date for the end of this year.

"I am Legend" was written by Richard Matheson, who wrote many episodes of the original Twilight Zone. The has a storyline that I think is so great. It gives the whole idea of vampires a different spin, much like what "28 Days Later" did for Zombies stories, except "I am Legend" was published in 1954.
I think the entry on Wikipedia sums it up best, so I think I will copy it here. I placed it under a cut for those not interested:

24th-Feb-2007 08:51 pm - Forrest 'Fucking' Gump and the Academy Awards
Tonight's ABC Saturday Night movie stands as a reminder of the worthlessness of the Academy Awards. The movie is "Forrest Gump", which won the 1994 Best Picture award. Do you know what movies "Forrest Gump" beat? It beat "Pulp Fiction" and "The Shawshank Redemption"...Yes, let that sink in for a minute..."Pulp Fiction", probably the most influential (for good or bad) movie in the last 25 years and "The Shawshank Redemption" which is probably one of the top films of the past 30 years, if not of all time.
Don't get me wrong, "Forrest Gump" is an OK B movie. It's a manipulative piece of schlock. A "feel good" movie, who's character overcomes the odds. Nothing wrong with that, but come on! It's like the bit from Sesame Street, "One of these things is not like the other, one of these things just doesn't belong."
I saw, with my brother, "The Shawshank Redemption" the night it came out. The theater had about 12 people in it. There had been no build up about the movie, and I saw it during a time when I hadForr friends who worked at the theater and therefore saw everything that came out while I waited for them to get out of work. During the climax moment of the movie, where you are convinced that Andy had killed himself, I just sat there with my mouth open. It's definitely the best movie I've ever seen in a theater. I think the only other time I have been that surprised by a movie was during "The Usual Suspect"....but I digress.
To sum things up, "Pulp Fiction" and "The Shawshank Redemption" are excellent movies and "Forrest Gump" is a festering pile of low-brow shit
29th-Jan-2007 12:00 am - Carthaginians Riding War Elephants Would Rule!

I'm such a geek. I just saw an ad for "Hannibal Rising" and my initial thought was that it was a movie about the Hannibal whom crossed the Alps, but it's about the Hannibal whom eats livers. That's one of the reasons I don't like movies, they always disappoint me.

I referenced War Elephants in this entry's title. Check out the Wikipedia entry on them. I found it interesting.

17th-Jan-2007 11:22 am - 5 Shitty Movies I Love
  1. Big Top Pee-wee
  2. Problem Child
  3. Problem Child 2
  4. Joe Dirt
  5. Waterboy

These movies are in no particular order. Notice that I listed "Big Top Pee-wee" and not "Pee-wee's Big Adventure" which is a cinematic masterpiece and one of my favorite movies of all-time. "Big Top Pee-wee" centers around a circus being blown into Pee-wee's farm by a tornado, allowing for hilarity to ensue.

27th-Mar-2006 11:07 am - The Movie Time Line
This is a cool link, The Movie Time Line. What these people have done, is place the date of events in many popular movies into one list. It's pretty cool, because they mix all different sorts of movies. These are the examples that the site gives at the beginning:

Who'd have thought that while Gangs of New York's Amsterdam Vallon was killing Butcher Bill, down the road Abraham Lincoln was being kidnapped by Bill & Ted...

And lucky Al Capone - he was sent to Alcatraz by Eliot Ness just in time to miss King Kong rampaging around New York...

Andy Dufresne was wrongly sentenced to Shawshank a few short months before someone else was framed - Roger Rabbit...

Anyway, if you are a movie fan, check it out.
3rd-Jan-2006 09:49 am - Starz looks to expand to PCs, video players

Starz Entertainment Group is introducing a $9.95-a-month subscription service that will allow people to download movies from the Internet and watch them on their computers, portable video players and television sets.
The new offering, called Vongo, comes at a time when movie studios and television networks are rapidly expanding their efforts to distribute their content over the Internet, experimenting with both paid and advertiser-supported models.

The rest of the article

This is what the rest of the networks need to start doing! Screw the cable and dish companies and go straight to the consumers via the internet. Now for the long term, I think $9.95 is a bit much, depending on how much this new service offers as far as content. But, I think once the newness and the novelty of the concept wears off, prices will come down and maybe channels will partner up to create larger online networks. This would allow you to get more bang for the buck.
Hopefully this will lead the networks to post their back catalog of shows too. I could see paying $10.00-$20.00 a month to get all of NBC's channels; NBC, Bravo, MSNBC, etc. and access to NBC's massive backlog of shows from it's history. Something like that would be worth it.

25th-Nov-2005 11:52 am - Pat Morita, Mr. Miyagi of 'The Karate Kid,' dies at 73
Actor Pat Morita, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his portrayal of the wise and dry-witted Mr. Miyagi in "The Karate Kid," has died. He was 73. Wax on, Wax off.

Wha!!??! Arnold is dead? He's piloting his Japanese Zero into heaven.

25th-Nov-2005 12:25 am - Thanksgiving roundup
Hey, hope everyone had a decent Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving isn't that big of a deal to me, but hey it's a day off. We woke up and watched some of the Detroit Thanksgiving Day Parade. I like the Detroit parade the best. The Macy's parade is too theatrical and broadway-ish for me. I like a traditional parade. Even the Detroit parade has started to make a turn towards the the big dance numbers.
Anyway, we went out to eat lunch/dinner at a fancy local restaurant, which had a kick ass buffet. I ate turkey, mashed potatoes, salad, chicken primavera, sweet potatoes, cranberries, and probably some other stuff which isn't popping into my head right now.
To finish out the day, we went to see the new Harry Potter movie. It was pretty decent. I had some problems with the movie. I won't say anything other than that about it at this time. I don't want to say anything that might be a spoiler and frankly I don't feel like talking about it anyway.

P.S.

The Lions BLOWS!!!
